About

I'm Christine, but I also answer to Chani :)  About 6 years ago my husband, myself and our three children left suburbia and rented a house on a working farm in rural Australia. We decided that we didn't want to be part of the 'rat race' anymore, and even though we didn't have the funds to buy something, we decided to make the sacrifices necessary to give our children and ourselves the opportunity to live at a slower pace. In reality, there were no sacrifices, because everything that we gave up (the opportunity to work in high paying, stressful jobs with our kids in daycare, school, aftercare etc. so we could pay a city mortgage and never have real time for each other) were things that we didn't want anyway. So now our kids are surrounded by farmland instead of concrete. They climb trees, pick fruit, paint outside, tend their goats, chickens, ducks and play with their pets. They eat healthy, natural foods that are not processed and are without chemicals. I have learned to cook. To really cook. We don't have a microwave and I make my own laundry liquid. We eat eggs laid by our own hens for breakfast, and drink real milk from our own milking goats. We have some veggies growing in the garden. As far as possible, I buy and use local produce. This little corner of the web is a catalogue of some of the things I have learned in our effort to live at A Slower Pace.
